In the Parallels window, when the Vm is running, right click on the USB
icon in the status bar at the bottom right of the window and see what
it says about the memory stick. It may be in use by MacOS and you'll
have to connect it via the menu.

I have just realised the need to update Parallels which improves USB 2
performance, and it now works. In doing so I also realise that the
version I just purchased from Amazon is not the current V3, it's 2.5,
which has somewhat pissed me off as I'm now faced with stumping up even
more dosh.
I'm not very happy about that.
