Re: Upgarding iMac II - removing my identitiy

I posted a week or so concerning upgrading my iMac to the new version. Well, it sold at the asking price within 2 days, so that's that.

The thing is, the buyer wants the computer 'configured' - he liked the way i had it set up, with all the little utilities and things.

What I'd like to do is strip the iMac of my identity - user name (my real name), and anything that could be tracked back to me. There's nothing partcicularly sensitive, and I know how to shift emails and documents. It's more the OS ingrained info I'd like to wipe. When I say 'wipe', this doesn't have to be beyond file recovery (it's not that important) - I just don't want my details accidentally used.

Is there a way to do this?

Just create a new (admin) user with an appropriate name/password for the new owner, then log in to that new account and delete your old account (choosing the option to remove all the user files for the old account immediately).
