They have actually used the Macs at college for a bit now (3D Design

and was trying to copy some pictures from the Net via a browser
(presumably Safari) into Word. She selected the image, chose 'Copy
image' went to Word but when she pasted it was just the URL. She tried
it again (noting there was a 'copy URL' option as well) but the same
result. Then she thought 'Mac = Fisher Price' (her words <g>) and just
dragged the image across into Word which worked ok?
Yeah, that's Microsoft Word for you (Tellytubby software <sig>). Works
fine with any other application, but Microsoft just can't be seen to
adhere to any standards but their own, and their own standard is only
one of inconsistency.
Of course, your average user doesn't think beyond the "oh it doesn't
work", so instead of actually investigating out of curiousity, they find
a workaround (eg. dragging the image) and think no more about it.
This is why Windows has managed to survive, because people are
remarkably adaptable, and they learn ways around the problems.
A bit like people who have ratty old cars with broken bits. If you ever
borrow their car, they'll either spend ten minutes telling you how to
hold the gear lever to get it into first, which bit of string to pull to
get the window up etc, or when you return it and say "the door handle
doesn't work" they just say "oh yeah you have to reach in from the back
door".
