using Eclipse at the moment, which would really benefit from having the
code in one screen and all the other bits in another, but I can't get it
to do that. Having said that, I have a feeling that the Mac version of
Eclipse will sufer the same problem. It's a shame, because that seems
one of the most useful advantages of a dual setup.

Eclipse on either platform will cope fine - just drag out the view into
a separate window, and put that window on the other monitor. I have a
three-screen set-up at work, and two are normally taken with Eclipse
stuff (the third with Lotus Notes. I know - kill me now).

Hmmm. I have spent this morning trying to bend the Eclipse interface to
my will and it doesn't seem to be interested. Maybe Woody is right.

The two ways I have tried are 1) to drag out a tab onto a floating
palette and 2) to create a new window and drag tabs into it.

With the first method, if I select my window in the left monitor, then
the palette comes to the front on the right monitor. I'd like to
*sometimes* have the info on the right monitor, but also have the option
to refer to other stuff on the right monitor (without having to shift
the right window around or keep opening/closing it).

With the second method, I get the behaviour of choosing whether to have
Eclipse forward in just the right, just the left, or both monitors, and
I can set it up so just the code appears in the left and the rest
appears in the right window... but then when I double-click stuff in the
right window it opens up a code editor on the right, instead of the
left.

Anyway, I've given up - I've got fed up with playing and need to do some
actual work ;)
