I find it easier to manage in my Inbox. The Inbox acts like a free
format data store that I can search at any time for key words. I find
that inventing a system of folders is a waste of time.
How about a folder called Archive (or Keep in my case for personal mail
or Old Inbox for work email) for stuff you want to keep? Delete
everything else? I agree that loads of folders are not the answer.
Smart folders in Mail are useful as they give you a particular view of
your mail without moving it from a single searchable location. I do
have a folder in work for each project I'm working on for the duration
of the work on it. Once done the mail is either deleted or moved into
Old Inbox.
