So that must be every PC/XP then ..

Yup. Like your Dad's emac/imac/whatmac is every Mac then.

Fair point.

I wonder how any of us (3) here and the guy next door (with 3 XP machines
on 24/7) manage to do anything.

I wouldn't know. My phone is on 24/7, as is my alarm clock.
Do you mention it because it's so rare for XP machines to stay uncrashed
for that long?

Of course.

Like burning a DVD whilst playing CS [1] at some ridiculous res /
frame rate on his 23" monitors. I know you can do the burning DVD bit
but can you even get CS for the Mac (let alone be able to play it
fully)? [1] That's CounterStrike not Creative Studio .. we don't all want to
be graphics designers .. ;-)

I know computer games are really a big deal for a lot of people, but I
loathe them.

But you don't actually have much of a choice even if you liked them
eh?

I have a real life full of exciting things to do, and to me computer
games seem to be frigging that little piece of reptilian brain that no
longer gets adrenaline from killing animals or rival males.

Ah, but that depends on the game. I have always played FPS (and really
only FPS's) since Doom on the PC (and before that on the Spectrum /
BBC). Once I have 'explored' the game and wondered at the imagination
of the games designers and the artistry of you graphics boys <g> I
then I often play the online version. I have since built up a good
group of regular player / mates who are all over the world so the
'game' has become something bigger. Now we chat / email / MSN each
other and help each other when / where we can. NOW, the game is just
something 'we' share.

I spend far too much time in front of this bloody thing as it is,

Well, luckily I have never had to use a PC all day as my job. I've
used many 'for' my job and had to look after many more for the same
reason. So to me it's all fun / recreation.

without frittering away precious seconds/minutes/hours that I could be
spending interacting with real people in a meaningful way,

See above.

instead of
pretending to eviscerate pretend people by wiggling my fingers and
jerking spasmodically to get ridiculous scores on ridiculous games

Can't get anywhere at them then eh. It can be difficult especially if
your machine isn't suitable, you don't have a decent range of games to
choose from or your hand / eye coordination is not good.

at
ridiculous frame rates on 23" (is that some veiled reference to penis
size? Is it impressive?

Jealous?

You need a smiley to let me know when I should
be impressed) monitors.

I only have a small one.

"Guess what? I pretended to kill 4297 people at PracticeKilling today -
at 60 frames per second!!!11! I 4|\/| 133t!"

Did you dear ... that's nice ... "N u r s e .."!

All the best ..
