Some companies are like that. On the bright side at least it wasn't ebay
or paypal, who would have answered a question you didn't ask.

Well they sort of did, but probably only in their attempt to
comprehend if I was reporting a fault or not.

What do you think .. my first request to them read:

"Hi Support,

Could you tell me if there is a 'disable screen saver' option within
the eyetv software?

If there isn't could it be considered in future releases please?

Anyway, it would appear that (now) Elgato and some others think the
windowed screensaver thing is a bit broken .. todays reply said:

"Yes, a request for such screensaver control is already in our feature
request list. You are not the first person to request this.

We'll see what we can do in this area, with a potential future update
to EyeTV."

So we got there in the end and it was nice to get any reply at all and
pretty propmt ones as well.

In the meanwhile we can just set the screensaver to 'very long' or
'off'.
