With this screen saver thing in mind I'm further surprised the eyetv
software can't suppress the screen saver. As part of our rf re-wire
I've re-fed the Pinnacle DTV card in my PC here and that has a nice
tick box on the general setup page marked 'Disable screen saver'. So
if some crappy old PC software can do it .. and afaic it's a
fundamental function?

You could have saved all the buildup to your punchline by just going to
versiontracker.com or macupdate.com and typing "disable screensaver".
First - and only - hit is Caffeine:

http://lightheadsw.com/caffeine/

And your one reply / thread.

I don't know what that means.

There was no punch line (still a schizoid
eh?) it was a genuine chain of events.

Your first post in the thread could have been avoided with a quick
websearch, but then how would you have got your dig in?

[snip - can't understand relevance of this]

I don't automatically go to versiontracker because the site looks a
mess, like an old BBS.

And there was I thinking you valued function but had no care at all for
form. VersionTracker works; surely you of all people shouldn't be
judging a download site based on its appearance?

I also had just updated the eyetv software so
there was little point on that front. Also, I was questioning the
eytetv app, not looking for more stuff to load / manipulate to
overcome it's failing (but thanks).

So, faced with an application that has a failing, you have two choices;
request that the company make the changes you require or find a
workaround. That has nothing to do with whether it's a Mac or a PC; I
often have to find workarounds for problems I have with software on both
Windows and OSX.

Or a google for "disable mac screensaver software" gives you a review of
Jiggler as the first hit, which I *haven't* tested but understand that a
number of people use regularly (I think on MacBreak?):

If I was to be Googling for anything it would be 'setting disable
screen saver eyetv' wouldn't it.

Well, I guess that depends on whether you want a solution to your
problem or not. If you would have done that websearch then given up,
then it's no wonder you ask so many questions that a quick Google will
answer for you.

VersionTracker, MacUpdate and Google are all quite useful (and I don't
need to explain to *you* that's not a dig but a genuine / serious
observation).

Right, now you have that off your chest would you go back to not
replying / helping me please.

I've never been "not replying / helping you", despite what you might
think. I quite enjoy watching you trying to poison the well, though.
