Safari = molasses!

Having googled, I know this isn't an uncommon problem, but actually I'm
really sick of it now.
I use Safari only really for Flickr, but I've been on there a lot
lately, and I've realised the behaviour follows a pattern. Fast and
fine on launch, (after clearing the cache and deleting the 'Icons'
file.) After increasingly few days, it slows and slows and finally
grinds to a halt when trying to move from Flickr page to Flickr page. I
then force quit, and the force quit window tells me 'Safari not
responding.' so I have to fq again.
I don't use Flickr in Omniweb because OW doen't like the 'Organize' bit.
Does anyone have any magic tips on this, before I abandon Safari and
look for another browser for Flickr?
