So, to improve his web browsing experience would whatever was the

if you can get osx to run on it, ie shove some more ram in, very easy
and the OS will tell you which slot as what.

particully as browsers effecivly stopped for os9 a few years back.

Sri Rowland / Roger, I missed your replies.

I have to admit I have since had a chat with the guy and suggested
that (MHO) it probably isn't worth spending the time (someone has got
to do it and it's not something I'd *want* to do) and money (even via
eBay etc) on. Sorta sending good money after bad (mainly because it's
quite an old bit of kit whether it was PC / Mac).

true. though adding a 512 chip is 40 quid, with that it would beable to
run osx, 10.3 would be cheap enought. adding the memory is very very
easy. back of case is hatch add memory, mac os even tells you which slot
has which chip.

At the same time I'm reluctant to suggest a PC because he really knows
nothing about 'computers' so muggings could end up with all the
support calls. Or maybe not, I think the biggest users of the machine
are his grand kids (or would be if they could use MSN Messenger / cam
etc) and at least if it were a PC they could help him (they all have
PC's at home).

that attaully might well be reason to maybe for him not going the
windows route while he might not be, his grandchildern would be high
risk users, be that via porn or what ever.

So bottom line, if this Mac was going to be used for any of the things
that Macs are particularly good at, I'd probably be more positive re
upgrading what he has or finding him a better one.

that rather depends on the uses, add an bit of memory and osx and it
will keep on going plus will run all his old software and data.

But we will see .. I've given him the options and will help him do
whatever he chooses.

All the best ..
