The first is merely amusing: have you noticed how many websites are
starting to acquire iPhone-like stylings (black rectangles, with rounded
corners and containing little square icons).
The same thing happened with aqueous buttons and icons after Apple
released the Aqua UI widgets. Perhaps they'll disappear now, lest they
be seen as imitating the Vista Aero look.
The second might be more significant, and it's the rise of
MacHeist/MacZot-style discounted software sales package. MacUpdate's
doing it now.
These are clearly working out well for the developers (I presume they
would not be entering into them if they didn't).
Beware though. Not all developers are treating these sales as "proper"
sales, equivalent to full price purchases. RapidWeaver 3.6.1 is a free
upgrade for those who bought it after April 1st this year, unless you
bought it as part of one of these packages.
On these (the current MacUpdate one), it says:
Intaglio users won't get free upgrades to the upcoming 3.0 release (they
will get a special upgrade price). The rest of the serial numbers are as
if you purchased them at retail prices through the developers directly.
Which seems ok.
