Bother - that worked perfectly for me when I had exactly the same
symptoms, so I have no suggestions.

succesfully and every time thereafter.

I did clear out all wifi-related keychain entries (plus some collateral
damage, plus passwords to servers I sold in 2003!), disabled, enabled, made
random ad-hock networks then went back.

I had a faff on the macbook, but it eventally took - this is being stuborn,
and getting me looking into the homeplug 200av stuff!
