He was on the panel at the Aqua and Mac OS X User Experience Feedback Forum at WWDC last week. He's a charismatic speaker. He also leads the MacOS and iPhone development. I'd say he was well placed to take over from Jobs should a vacancy arise. No reason why Jobs should step down for a good few years yet.


Last year he was VP Platform Experience, this year he's VP iPhone. My money's on him as the next CEO because it's probably 10-15 years away, and the rest of the management are NeXT old guard who are the same age as Steve (Bertrand, Phil et al). It doesn't make any sense to get an outside man in as the company doesn't exactly need direction from outside at the moment.
