Amarok has a kind of 'playlist screen' which you can just drag the
albums/tracks that you want to listen to without having to create a
playlist or check/uncheck specific songs. This is great for listening to
particular things on a whim.
That's "Party Shuffle". Just drag stuff you want to play there, or let
it choose tracks randomly.
Also, it weights the popularity of tracks/albums based upon how often
you've been played or skipped them. Rather than having to explicitly
rate each track.
iTunes has play counts, but not skip count.
Playlists in Amarok:
-Can specify more explicitly tracks to include: e.g. tracks by artist A
or artist B but not shorter than 1min in length (for both artists)
-can create kind 'pseudo' playlist which is only populated when
selected: e.g. 30 random tracks by artist A. You can kind of achieve the
same thing by shuffling a particular playlist in iTunes.
Or you can create a new Smart Playlist from the File menu (Cmd-Opt-N),
and set up a bunch of rules.
