Why is this irritating and what should it do instead?
It's irritating because it's asking me if I want to save the
information, whilst simultaneously obscuring the information making it
impossible for me to judge. My only course of action is to cancel the
dialog, look at the text, then try the close operation again and this
time have memorised the result.
What should it do instead? It should be moveable - I need to shift the
dialog out of the way so that I can see the text underneath, and then
make a sensible decision on whether to save or not.
Hmmmm. Most of the time I know what's in the window - I don't find this
has been a problem.
Well, then you can't join our club. Nyah.
I find it irritating because - just like in the real world - I leave
stuff lying about then do a periodic tidy up. So I close a bunch of
windows and - oh, one's got unsaved changes. Is that accidental unsaved
changes or did I just forget to save it? The only way to check is to
cancel the dialog.
And it does mean that when I send it to the dock,
the save dialogue goes there too. As it does when I move the window.
These are the upsides, yes.
