Someone who bought a fairly good PC off me keeps badgering me because
he can't get it to work properly. It's not so much that he doesn't
know how to use Windows, as that it keeps suffering crashes, blue

as simple as install basic essential drivers.
Frankly, I'm getting a bit fed up with all the complaints, and have
decided to offer him a G4 Mac Mini as a replacement, with the USP
(unique selling point) that it just bloody works.
You'll appreciate that I'm in no mood to suffer a load of dumb
questions about how the Dock works, and the need to Quit unused
applications rather than just close all their windows; so if someone
could give me the URL of a beginner's guide to OS X Tiger, I'll be
able to tell him to RTFM, and save my sanity.
So you've not looked in the blindingly obvious place, then..? Apple
used to do a very comprehensive guide call, rather obviously, Switch
101.
Ah, yes, here it is...<http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/>

P.S. Sorry if the above seems a little terse, but my the modem half of
my DG834G died three days ago and the replacement (a Belkin N1) - or
what I thought was the replacement - turned out to be the router
without the bloody modem!
We have one of those here. Annoyingly, it doesn't support PPTP VPN
connection pass-thru :-( Bah.
Sorry, but is that something I need to worry about at any point in my
existence? If so, what do you recommend? I just wanted something that
wasn't Netgear, and Belkin are known for producing decent kit (and it
was given quite good reviews by Mac User and Mac World). I'm not
really au fait with networking, I just wanted something that was
futureproof (well, as much as possible) backwards compatible (we still
have PeeCees in this 'ere house) and would give me a signal down the
end of the lawn (like the 834 used to, but now, er, doesn't.) oh and a
decent DTR, both wired and wireless. I know what VPN is, but what's
the PPTP bit? Passworded something Transfer Protocol? Am I in the
right ballpark...?
seem quite appealing...Oh yeah, and voting. Don't forget to vote,
folks - it's not going to make a sodding bit of difference, but at
least it wastes 30 minutes of your life (well, in my case at least).
They're not voting everywhere though. Not around here, anyway.
True. We've got an independent here almost certain of being re-
elected. The Lib Dem bloke's not standing this time, and he was a huge
supporter of Tesco (shame because, apart from that, he's a really
decent bloke. Looks like Andrew Marr - or, how Andrew Marr's probably
going to look in about 20 years' time), the Tory candidate's only just
moved into the area about 2 months ago, and the Labour bloke's a
staunch Blairite, so I can't see him receiving too many. On a
constituency level, we're Tory - and always have been - this was one
of the very few remaining Tory strongholds when Bliar's lot were first
elected.
