Yep.

My original point was that multicellular life arose between 1 billion
years ago and the Cambrian explosion about 600 Ma ago. I was also
assuming that multicellular life, and the associate sensory machinery
that goes with it, would be required to contemplate the world at some
level.

Dawkin's "The Ancestor's Tale" is a good book on the evolution of life.

OK, I was only passing on what I'd found in various university web
sites. It's certainly obvious that various states of lifeform are argued
about a lot, so I don't think it's worth getting into that here.
