I just picked up a powerbook 400Mhz laptop at a thrift store for 10
bucks. No Battery, No CD and no pwer supply. I want to see if it would

starts up but is password protected. Is there anyway to get past this?

This would be a pismo?

You need to boot it from CD/DVD. If it is an OS X CD/DVD, there's an
option to reset the admin password.

Alternatively if you boot in Firewire target disk mode, can you connect
it to another Mac?

As you'll almost certainly want to do a wipe and reinstall of OS X,
you'll probably want to use the reset admin password approach.

I've forgotten, can't you initialise it in target disk mode?
Otherwise, it is not to difficult to take out the disk
and initialise it in an external enclosure.
As for system: ik will take anything from OS 9 (perhaps even 8.6)
till the latest.
