So, a failure in the Operating System ? Surely most WPs can save as .pdf

I looked in Word 2003 and the latest Open Office today and neither of
them seemed to (as 'save as' and as std anyway)?

Have a look at this easy 'how to' David ..

A few years ago a .pdf file _might_ have been exotic but
surely not now.

Pass, not a typist.

therefore not directly related to OS's. And yes, I got it but I'm not
sure you did?

Then why mention them ? {This is a recurring question in answers to your

Pass ..

They simply have to choose to format things correctly

'Correctly' as per your view of the world. Yes, the format may be
'portable' but completely irrelevant to the majority who ale already
using a common (all be it de-facto) format?

It's not a reliable one - if it was then your wife would use it for her
work rather than reverting to a .pdf - and, are you saying that people
shouldn't be corrected if they are doing something in a way which is
less than optimum ?

Erm, reverting? She uses Quark then outputs to a .ps then feeds it
through Acrobat Distiller (apparently)?

[as opposed to
brainlessly listening to the Windows evangelists like yourself]

Ooo, picked up my 'evangelist word eh David? I'm not sure how many
times I've told you I'm a hardware engineer (but this is the last) and
couldn't give a f*ck what OS I run as long as it does all I want it
to, easily (for me).

You say that constantly but, and again constantly, your actions in
endlessly dragging it into the conversation would seem to indicate
otherwise.

Sorry, I've lost what you are saying ..

and
produce a document that is formatted so everyone can access it past,
present or future -

Most people are interested in 'now' David.

Rubbish. Most people seem to _think_ that because they can access it
today then they will be able to do likewise tomorrow. Ballmer & Gates
will soon teach them otherwise.

Whatever, like I say, I (and I suggest those 'most people' you refer)
really don't and won't care. When *whoever* changes the de facto WP
world someone will have to tell me about it (so if you pull your
crusade off please drop me a line). :-)

All the best ..
