How about using energy saving to put the screen to sleep instead?
I don't want it to lock when the screen sleeps, I want it to lock when
the machine itself sleeps (more specifically, when I close the lid, but I
don't think that there's any chance of that).
Yebbut, energy saver will turn the screen down then off. Think of it as
a black screensaver ;-) It comes back with any keystroke or mouse
wiggle.
I use that, plus a hot corner for a screen saver if I want to leave my
desk unmolested while the Boko is thinking; with password required on
wake and return from screensaver. I have the screensaver kick-in slider
set to never.
