If you want to take a PowerBook, iBook etc on a Virgin Atlantic flight you now have to remove the battery for the duration of the flight: <http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/09/14/virgin_apple_dell_battery_ban/>.
I
guess I'll be flying BA from now on.
They'll be next.
The recent ban on laptops (and anything else) in hand luggage has lead to
many people pointing out that it was more dangerous to put them in the hold
where a battery fire could go undetected.
Have their been any incidents of battery fires when the laptop isn't
in use? Or even when it's in use but just using battery, no PSU?
Do they check the serial numbers of the batteries to determine if they're going to catch fire or not?
Cheers,
