Help on becoming a Mac man!!

Hi,

I am now considering moving from being a PC user for many years, to a
Mac. Can anyone help me in deciding on what to buy? (and perhaps any
recommendations on where from in the UK)?

I have three school age daughters (9, 14 and 17) and need to get three
laptops. We want life to be as easy as possible with the new laptops,
needing:-

- several USB ports
- broadband internet access
- 17 inch screen
- quite powerful machines, I believe, but we won't be doing much
gaming etc
- standard MS Office applications (if poss)
- wireless capabilities so we don't have to mess around with wires
etc. (and any recommendations on what we need for this would be
appreciated (we have a big house so I guess a good range is needed))
- DVD playing capabilities, and sound from machines if possible
without need for extra speakers
- virus protection?? Firewall??

Main internet usage is for research/email/music.

So, I need an easy to use machine please (well, two, in fact) with all
the useful stuff already installed. So I don't have to do too much
research before purchasing them myself, I'd just like to gain from your
experiences. The children and I are experienced PC users, but I am not
technically-minded (as can probably be seen).

Please help me to move smoothly from PC to Macs and into a more healthy
future for us all!!

Finally, the kids are on about iPods as well. Any
recommendations/advice?

Thanks,

Mark.
