Or possibly even the good old Quicktime player?
I've found out, with no help from this group, that I can play a single
track from an audio CD this way:
What, apart from my statement above?
1. Insert an audio CD
2. Force-Quit iTunes
What on earth for, did it crash?
3. Open the CD in Finder
Huh, it should already be there!
4. Ctrl-click or right-click on a track
Yeah.
5. Select Open With -> Quicktime Player
Yeah.
6. Click the Play button
Right.
I could presumably set up the Automator to pass each track in turn to
Quicktime.
Possibly, or just drag and drop!
Even easier, open the CD in Finder, click on Column view, then you can
just play the tracks there. It'll only work one at a time, but you don't
have to run *any* applications.
I still can't see what's wrong with iTunes though, it's there already,
free, and works pretty well. You can add features if you like, and even
control it from FireFox if you so wish.
I had just spent the entire morning reading legal documents. Boring,
boring, boring, boring, boring. I just wanted to relax with some music
to clear my head, but guess what iTunes presented me with, the first
time I ran it?
So, click the OK box like everybody else does. It only asks you to do
this once when you first run it, and once after an update.
I think the OP is being a bit ungrateful for the help IMHO.
You don't get to make that call. I'm a switcher, and you have to be
nice to me!
Why not, an attitude like that will get you no help. I happen to have
two Macs and a PC here, and I know what I prefer. You seem to be acting
like a Windows user, make something really simple into something
complicated.
FWIW, iTunes is probably the best media storage app that has ever
existed, it doesn't get much easier, or indeed more flexible. You can
use iTunes as much or as little as required, a simple CD player, or a
full audio library and player for a home entertainment system.
Whatever software you install, there will be a legal file to read, some
authors make you read it first, others just include it with the main
files. It's up to you whether you read it of course, but not reading the
'Read Me' files is no different to just clicking the 'OK' button in
iTunes. And I bet you don't bother reading all those files for all the
apps on your disc drive.
