Hi there
We're completely renovating the old house we just bought, it's currently
stripped to bare walls and dirt floors.
Although our networking has all been wireless for the last couple of
years, I wondered about reasons to lay a few data cables (which would be
insanely cheap to do in the house's current state), but I can't think of
any particularly convincing ones.
Think I'm missing anything?
We've never experimented with a music server, but if we did set one up
it could still be wireless couldn't it? Airport Express and all that...
I've taken a couple of powerbooks around the place and there's no
problem with wireless signal strength.
Any thoughts appreciated - thanks!
You may want to put in an ethernet circuit with one socket in each [likely] room. But other than that... And, as you say, almost everything works off wireless these days.
(I find it quite amusing watching people thread miles of cable into there new houses on these TV renovation shows - has no one at all thought to mention wireless ? Perhaps they're all too busy counting their profit after selling 8 kilometres of cable.)
