But's funny you bring this up now. I was out working earlier, on a Dell
laptop, and it started making rather intense noises. I started to get
worried, but then got distracted by work. Yikes...
In the days when men were men, Bella was Bella and little furry
creatures from Alpha Centauri were littleAHEM! way back when, then, when
laptop batteries really weren't up to much, a chap had made a battery
pack to extend the life of his PeeCee. We were both attending a
conference on online security and he was sitting next to me, quietly
doing his email offline (it was before Wifi), when the battery pack
burst into smoke and then into low orange flame. So you see, there's no
way round it. Batteries store energy, and they're dangerous.
Me, I was using an Amstrad NC200, still for my money the most practical
laptop of all time; ran cool, had a display that got better, the
brighter the ambient light. Had a 20 hour battery life on the internal C
cells, about 60 on the external D cell pack I made up for it. Of course
it was limited, but for script writing it couldn't be beat, and that was
one way I earned my living.
