Is there a way to delete a post in Macsoup and not see any of the
followups too?
I use the "Auto-Kill Thread" option on certain posts but the followups
still appear, albeit marked "Read". If I mark a post like this I don't
wnat to see any further posts.
Is this possible?
With a twist in perception, yes.
If you set the MacSOUP article list to only show unread articles, then they
will vanish from view forever.
But that may require a change in viewing habits....
Sorry for my previous reply I hadn't thought through your suggestion.
What you suggest will of course work, whether I can use to that way of
reading Usenet I guess I'll find out soon :-)
Yeah, exactly, it's a change of habit.
What I do is I have a killfile (sic) set up that tags all posts in ucsm.
In the article list I view unread posts. I download, which gives me all
the new articles tagged and unread. I hit spacebar and page through the
lot. Every time I come across a thread I don't like, I hit minus, and
the killfilter takes care of the dross (marking as read so I don't see
it with my spacebar paging).
Anything particularly interesting I will auto-tag (using the plus key)
which means that in the article list that post and all followups are
marked with a + sign.
When I'm in a hurry I cherry-pick threads from the article list and page
through using spacebar (which again conveniently ignores killfiled
posters, subjects, and their followups). The plus sign - which indicates
followups to articles I have decided are interesting as well as
(automatically) followups to my own posts - it a good way to help with
the cherry-picking.
In fact, the above is exactly how I picked this post out of all those
waiting; I'm just popping in for a few minutes so I cherry-picked.
If you're busier than normal, you just hit the minus key more often
while paging through (or just select a bunch of threads in the article
list and do it there). If you want to catch up without killing all
followups to current articles, you can cmd-E which marks articles read
but doesn't kill followups. This works differently in the article list
view (mark all read) and the individual post view (mark current thread
read).
Anyway, as I said, I was only popping in, so I hope that this is enough
to be getting on with.
Sorry again...
No apologies required! I was pretty brief in what I said (partly because
I was at work with no MacSOUP in front of me) so it's hardly your fault!
