Wot's the point? You won't be able to connect to the test machine unlessAh, so you are saying I won't be able to get IN to the test machine. OK
you're also behind the NAT router, or you piss about with port
forwarding on
the switch side of the router. All of which seems a complicated
solution to
an easy problem.
I see what you mean. NAT only works one way, so the test machine can
get out, but I can't get it. Is that it?
No - just ignore him. Both BongeBoo and Woody have suggested solutions
that do not take into account all of the information from your original
post and therefore won't do everything that you want.
Ahh - I don't have the original post, so sorry if I missed something
that got lost.
All I assumed was that it was to replace another server, so if you want
to put another server in place, give it another name, another ip, and
have an alias address of server.domain.dom which points to
mainserver.domain.dom, and a server secondserver.domain.dom, which you
can point the alias to when something goes wrong.
Messing around with a nat-d network to make it easier for someone else
to switch when you are not there seems unnecesarily complex for
something which is an everyday problem, but as you say, maybe I am
missing something from the original post.
