Yes, I can set the hard drive's IP address. It's also asking me for the
subnet mask and the default gateway. What are these, and how should I set
them?
Excellent! Subnet mask tells the machine which IP addresses are on the
local network, and Default Gateway is the IP address to send packets
to, to get _off_ the local network out to the wider world.
Hooray! That's all done, then.
Now, one more I need help with. I've discovered this hard drive is all
firmwared up to use Windoze to a far greater extent than I was led to
believe.
I can access it on the LAN by clicking Network (in a Finder window) and
selecting the Workgroup name. I get a dialog asking me to "Select the
SMB/CIFS shared volume you want to connect to."
But I *can't* access it on the LAN by typing in its IP address under "Connect
to Server...". I just get "The server may not exist or may not be operational
at this time."
