I do get deeply annoyed by nagging shareware. In fact, I think the only
thing that could remotely be classed as nagging (and it is remote, I
think) that I have paid for is Graphic Convertor. In my experience, the
more annoying the nag, the less useful/elegant/well produced the
shareware. And the less likely I am to pay.
I think you'd have to pull my fingernails out with pliers abraid my finger
tips with sandpaper and rub the bleeding ends in a salt vat then dip them in
vinegar before I'd pay for the disgraceful train wreck of a UI that is
Graphic Convertor.
Used much shareware? If you think GC's UI is that painful, then there
are a surprising amount of people out there who would like you to pay
for blunt instrument based trauma, coupled with bamboo splints under the
toenails [1].
It's not great a great UI, or hugely user friendly, I'll admit, but GC
saved me/made some things very easy for me on a few occasions, and that
merited paying for.
I'd still say that compared to some of the whining, insistent shareware,
that can be so time limited that you can't even get an idea of whether
it is actually useful or not, GC's 'countdown' AND UI are OK.
After all, look at what a free alternative like the GIMP provides in
terms of sheer UI silky underpantsness.

[1] Yes, yes I know. Some people will pay good money for this, but let
us assume that S&M hasn't reached the point of decadent sophistication
that UI frustration or hideousness is a sexual preference [2].
[2] As opposed to a matter of camp taste. I can well imagine a
Eurovision style celebration of overwrought UIs. "Next to the Dayglo
Mexican Minnie Mouse of death figurine, Tinky Winky Mooncup and DIY
Warhol self-portrait, I just had to use Vista on the 20" monitor." Oooh
look <http://www.eurovision.tv/>, Serbia and Montenegro has officially
withdrawn from 2006.
