The 60Csx has both USB and serial connection. The USB option won't work
with Mac GPS Pro, or at all in OSX as I understand it. I have a serial
cable and the Keyspan serial/USB adapter, which means I can use it with
Mac GPS Pro.
I'd like to update firmware, and upload maps from Mapsource. The
difficulty seems to be that according to most of the sources I've found
on the web no combination of cables work with VPC *version 7*.
It might work with VPC 6, but seeing as I'm running Tiger I don't think
I can use VPC 6.
If I could get the Garmin to work with VPC 7, then it might make the
purchase of VPC 7 worthwhile. If I can't then it would be a waste of
money.
I don't have VPC 7 - maybe that's the problem other people have been having,
I don't know. I've been using VPC 6 for the last 18 months, first on 10.3 and
The USB support in VPC7 seems significantly broken. It doesn't work with
*the* standard serial-USB adaptors (Keyspan), for goodness sake. I never
used VPC 6, but given that there seem to be lots of tutorials on using it
with various USB devices, I'd guess it is a lot less broken.
Cheers,
Chris
