Well mine is the tower version at 300mhz, which incidentally boots faster
than my p3 800 at work! And its so much better at doing tasks. The only
speed issues are importing cd's in itunes, and burning cd's have not tried
burning dvd's yet although I do have a pioneer superdrive fitted!!!

Indeed, for one thing the exact setup will make a difference - RAM , HD
speed and available space etc, even a better graphics card might help
too.

I recently setup a G4/400 (sawtooth) for my Mum, and installed Tiger
onto that, it certainly wasn't frustrating to use by a long way, and I
only managed to get 512MB of RAM into it.

Even the little G3/400 iMac we have here is fairly OK with Tiger. A bit
slow at times, but perfectly usable.
