Can you give a URL for Canvas?
I saw a tip in a Photoshop book that suggests scaling in increments of
10% at a time - It was written with scaling up in mind, so you'd make
the image 110% at each rescale. You could try the reverse and use 90% in
stages until you get to the size you need.
It had the effect of not producing artifacts.
That sounds wrong to me. The fewer scaling steps used, either up or
down, the fewer chances for errors to creep in. This is especially true
of marginal scaling factors which create a kind of "Moiré" effect
between source and target pixel grids.
