I agree.

If all of that's true, then a really simple test would be to type:

   telnet server.at.lukes.office.com adminport

from your remote machine, where adminport is 80 or whatever the mailman
stuff lives on. If anything happens apart from a "Connected to" message, you
know that your networking is notworking and it is nothing to do with your
web browser.

using port 80 I get "connected to"

But I don't know for sure that mailman is on port 80

What does the URL in your email look like?

    http://lukes.server.com/mailman/something

or

    http://lukes.server.com:8000/mailman/something

The first case uses port 80, the second uses port 8000.

I just tried it with the firewall off - it DOES WORK then.
So it is a firewall issue
But it would appear the firewall log is lying, or else I can't read, or
else the log isn't as up to date as I thought it was

Something like that, I'd guess.

It's port 80

It works over LAN not over WAN.

I will triple check tonight that I have not missed something in the firewall log
if there's nothing relevant there the presumably the only other place to place the blame is at the ISP
different ISP at each end
can't be the remote end, because i can do normal webby things, so there can't be a problem with port 80 at that end.

Is it likely that eclipse would block incoming traffic on port 80?
They obviously don't block outgoing traffic on port 80

confused......
