The rights don't come into it when you're talking compatibility. Non of the record companies give a monkeys about which operating system you use just as long as you pay. And, if they must use .wma then there is a player for most systems.

Just nick the stuff, till they get some brains and price their gear
accordingly.

I know that this is a bit of a hobby horse of mine but, if you look at the SSP then over 50% of the price you pay to Our Price or Smiths or HMV or Virgin goes to the retailer. So, in terms of CD sales, the retailer takes the lions share.

To my way of thinking, a CD should cost around 7 or 8 quid for a full price release.

And surely then it follows that a download shouldn't cost anything like what they now charge. Something in the region of 50 or 60p would seem about fair.

You going to pay $10,000 to fill your iPod?
You going to pay $15/month or the protection guys will come round to
throw a bomb through your window?

Totally and utterly fucking *hopeless*

Everyone in the music biz is so far up 'emselves, they risk a
topological nightmare.

The problem is that in the US they are getting away with it and it looks likely that the same thing will happen here.
