Switching - Moving Email

Just starting to get everything together to complete my switch from the evil hell of PC's to the mac.

On the PC, I use Thunderbird for email, and need to find a way of getting all my email from that onto the Mac. My plan was to use Apple's Mail, but if necessary I can simply install Thunderbird.

Before I do anything, what is the easiest way of doing this? Or, indeed, is it actually not possible at all?
