I don't think I'm in the best position to answer that. I see more failures,
because I see more kit than most, so obviously I'm biased in my view.
Generally the old rules SEEM to hold true. The more you spend, the more
reliable they are. The PowerMac G5s don't seem to be going wrong now the
initial mobo faults are fixed. The Aluminium Powerbooks seem ok, although
its a little too early to tell. Ditto the G4 iBooks.
The G5 iMac is probably the best bet, as the fault is known, common, and
easily fixed. I can't believe Apple/China will continue to manufacture
faulty parts knows they will fail again and again. But I thought that about
iBook G3, and some people I know have been through 4 mobo replacements.
My rule has always been buy the cheapest thing that will do what you want.
It'll depreciate less, and if it breaks costs less to replace.
Having said all that, I was spending my own money I'd get a 12" PB. Gotta
love that keyboard and dinky size, although an utter horror to strip down.
