Not sure why I would need any of this: on the Sun V20z, there is a
separate "service processor" (a PPC running embedded Linux from flash
memory) which is always running as long as there is power. It has its
own ethernet i/f and you can ssh into it at any time. There is also a
ghastly https front-end using Java applets (this is Sun, sigh...) that
doesn't work with any of the Mac browsers; comes up on Windows, but just
clicking around I managed to get it to crash the box so hard, even
crtl-alt-del doesn't work.
Anyway the BIOS on the main unit already knows how to talk to the
"serial port" which can then be diverted to the service processor. I can
remotely power up/down the main unit, change BIOS settings, boot Solaris
into single-user and even reflash the BIOS. It's only when Solaris
starts booting from CD-ROM that it switches back to the real console. If
I boot from the HD, all is well:

The V20z has both PS/2 and USB so wouldn't need these, I think.
