So far I've felt rather frustrated with the present system (VAIO VGN-FS
processor 1.73) when trying to burn a DVD usingNero or other software.
I'd like to get another Sony as it looks and feels right to me, just seen
the VGNAR71M reduced in price and my questions to you are the following:
Will the processor be fast enough for my need, and will the integrated
Blue-ray optical drive be difficult to handle, as I am not to experienced
about this new technology.
Suggestions on alternative models (17") are welcome.
I would really appreciate your answers. Many thanks in advance.
possibly on the bleeding edge of specification, where folks burn DVDs
succesfully on systems which much less performance.
So I'm wondering exactly where the current Sony is failing and what
software/hardware setup (too many applications, insufficient memory,
spyware/trojan activity) it is lumbered with.
If you were editing videos or doing some fairly intensive graphics work,
this laptop might be for you - but there are other alternatives.
Also,
If you are downloading films, to burn and then watch on a laptop screen
with laptop audio - wouldn't you rather enjoy them played on your home
television set with superior audio?
I'd look at media center PCs for this task. They sit under your TV (flat
panel prefered), can have huge hard disk drives attached, and as well as
RapidShare, can record video from DTT/Satellite and BBC iPlayer, and
burn/watch DVDs/Blueray whatever...
Then use your exisiting laptop for word processing, Email etc....

Many thanks for your time. Can't go in to many details but I need to get a
new laptop, the one I am using at the moment isv very slow, yes, possibly
has many applications but has also been used constantly for the last three
to four years by everyone in the family, it is going to be passed on to the
children.
I am not in to downloading films, games of any sort. Not very keen on
desktops, a 17" laptop is what I want and I am sure to enjoy more, in my own
rooms or on the kitchen table according to my wishes.
I have a couple of independent hard drives to store my music. If you could
please advise I'd be glad to know more about the specifications needed for
burning CDs and DVDs successfully but also...fast! And about the alternative
model that you mentioned would also be appreciate, if it is possible to do
so openly on the Net.
Best regards.
