What is the difference between Centrino and Pentium in terms of the
performance and usability of a laptop? What are the main points in
favour of/against each of them?
Thanks,

Centrino is a marketing name for a range of Intel chipswhich all together
give you a Centrino system, which in turn is supposed to give you more power
and give longer battery life, the 3 compoants are an Intel Pentium M
processor, and Intel chipset motherboard and an intel wireless lan card, if
any of the 3 are not present the machine will revert to a standard Pentium M
machine.
Pentium processors are the name range given to a range of CPU's made by
Intel Pentium II Pentium III Pentium IV etcetc
In general terms the faster and more powerful the Processor and the more
memory the machine has and the more intense the programmes running then the
shorter battery life you will have. IE if you sit on a in McDonalds using
your laptop and using their free internet access and browsing the net while
converting a DVD to mpeg format, and while rendering a large picture in
photoshop, then your battery will last only a very short time , compared to
say sat on a train just typing up some doculments in word.
