My Advent laptop will turn off without warning. To restart it i have
to reomove/reinsert the battery. I usually have to repeat this process
several times. If i keep the laptop on a flat surface it usually works
fine but more often that not it will turn off when i have it sitting
on my lap. (kind of defeats the purpoe of having a laptop!)
Can anyone help?
Sounds like its overheating probably due to dust getting inside. If the
normal cooling is compromised, having it on your lap can reduce airflow
through the machine even more, and it'll overheat and shut down until it
cools off.
You can try sticking a vacuum cleaner nozzle hear the air vents on the
underneath, but I wouldn't expect it to help too much unless you can get
closer to the chip fan itself . Otherwise get a piece of hardboard that it
can rest on when it's on your lap.
