Dear all:
I am wanting to purchase a 17" monitor with max resolution. I
am planning on mail order, so there is no display model for me to look
at.
On the resolution, some monitor say that the max resolution is
1680 by 1050.
The basic model is 1440X900. I was wondering if I got a lap top
with 1680X1050, will there be a blank space on the right side of the
screen?
1680X1050 and 1440X900 are not the same aspect ratios; So, I
have heard that the 1680X1050 resolution will have a blank spot. Is
this true?
Thank you in advance.

No, normally LCD screens work best at their native resolution, however they will work at othe lower resolutions.
If you buy a 1440x900 screen you would set windows (or whatever OS you are using) to use this resolution by right clicking (MS windows) on the screen.
If you buy a 1680x1050 screen you would set windows to use this resolution
(likely the PC would be set as above anyway.)
