Re: Laptop won't connect to Internet

The Wireless Network adapter is a Draytek 540 cardbus and I removed this when I sent it away. I have since reinstalled the the network adapter and the drivers for it. When I try the 'repair' option on right clicking the wireless adapter icon in the systray I get a message that the adapter isn't connected properly.

Get it back to the workshop, with the card, & ask them to look at it, politely pointing out that it used to work before they worked on the machine. If they get it working in the shop, that's a lot less variables to worry about. The problem with a mail linked shop is that they can claim it worked when it left them, & it must have been damaged in transit, & the carrier will say that you didn't claim on delivery, so they're not going to cough up.....

If you don't trust the one you went to before, go to another place local to you, but be prepared for them to be annoyed you didn't go there first. (Sucking of teeth, inflated bill & so on)
Just make sure you've a fully working up to date backup of anything you want to keep.

The adapter driver saying it's not connected properly may mean a bad PCMCIA slot. Or it may be a message from the driver that it can't connect to the router for another reason, such as interference. Maybe next door have bought a nice shiny new router which is on the same channel(s) as yours. I take it you've tried the adaptor in another machine, as the adaptor may also have gone wrong while being plugged in & out.

Sorry this may not be much help, but it really is a case of working through item by item & eliminating possibilities until it starts working again.

1) check the router with another computer which is known to be good.
2) check the card in another computer which is known to be good.
3) check another known to be good card in the laptop.
4) check yours is the only network in range by maybe using a network sniffer or another computer while you turn your router off.
5) and so on & so forth....
