Im all sorted now.. the benefit of copying the install files over the the
Hard drive is that you dont have to fish out the Windows CD everytime
Windows wants to update something ! It uses the install files already on the
HD. The problem I had is that the Laptop in question (Libretto 70CT) doesnt
have a CD drive!
Thanx anyway

Just acquired an old laptop with Windows 95 on it. I want to put Win
98SE on it..I have the full version CD and have copied the files to
the laptop hard drive, but obviously when running setup Windows
complains I need the upgrade version. Im sure theres a way round it
(apart from formatting the hard drive!).. any suggestions ?

You should not have copied all the files to the hard drive, surely setup
is
there to do this. All you do is stick the CD in the drive and follow the
instructions to install the porgramme. I personally would format the
drive,
having created a partition first, then use the Windows startup diskette in
A:, go to D: and type install. The CD may be a self-booting CD, in which
case you can simply follow the instructions.
