Toshiba TECRA S1 Self Repair, Motherboard issues

Hello,

I've just received a faulty tecra s1 from a friend of mine. We both
purchased it at the same time (in our school, that was the (sic)
recommended one), I get rid of mine long ago after many troubles but
he kept it.

Now warranty is over and the computer won't turn on. Toshiba is asking
the price of a new entry level laptop for a repair that we don't know
the quality (6x mb changes in 3 years)...

So he gave it to me. I was just wondering if there is any known issues
that can be fixed DIY style with a bit of patience and time.

I know you are expert over here for laptops and been helped by the
past, using previous answers corresponding to my problems.

Can't find anything on the net save a disassembly guide.

I've already had several laptop and been through some "service dealer"
repairs, so I'm not afraid of changing a motherboard or things like
that.

The problem :

the computer suddenly stopped switching on and currently nothing had
been successful in attempts to turn it on (w/ w/o batt, power on
holded on for 30sec w/o batt & a/c...)

I'm suspecting, as 90% with electronics devices that there is a bad
contact somewhere but I'm a bit struggling finding it.

The computer lights at the front won't even light up nor the common
HDD and so on noises, so it's not a display problem.

Clearly it seems to me like a motherboard. And motherboard have been
changed in the past mainly for bad connections, usb, audio jack...

So any help would be very appreciated as, being a student, I
definitely can't afford a new mb and even though I would be able, I'll
probably go to a new purchase...

Thanks a lot,

Mikael.
