Compaq Presario EA2521 running XP SP2. Can't get it to power up.
Occasionally it begins to power up for about half a second then cuts
out.
Bought second hand 2 years ago. It never worked properly on the
battery.
Previous owner only ever used it on mains. I heard that wasn't good
for
batteries. Got new one, but still never worked properly. Only went at
best
for 20 mins on battery then cut out with no warning. At the moment
I'd be
happy with just getting it to power up.
Any suggestions?
Sounds more like a power suppyl problem. you might want to see if the
charger is delivering the goods. I take it it won't boot if you remove
the battery and try it just off the mains?
No, but if I remove the battery then reinsert it that's when it will
try to boot for a split second.
Before this started it would occasionally not boot for a day or two
then suddenly be OK again. When it doesn't boot, the power supply light
to the laptop isn't lit up.
Sounds like your power supply is knackered.
Took it into work today and borrowed a power supply. Booted up - showed
55% on battery - when it reached 100% I pulled out the power and it
instantly cut out.
In which case the battery is knackered as well. You could try leaving the
battery on charge for say 24 hours and then give it a go, but it's
possible that your old charger has stuffed up the battery.
The battery did the same when new as did it's predecessor
