Re: Making an XP-Pro CD to use on a Dell laptop

The chances are it will not come with anything, no recovery partition as
this was not implemented on the D600 range. If anything it will come with a
Dell XP disk, which is a full blown OEM copy of windows XP which will not
need to be activated as it is BIOS dependant ie if you install it on any
dell there is no need to activate, if you install it on any other
manufactures machine you will need to activate and have a COA to do so. IF
it does not come with a Dell XP disk then you can buy one on Ebay or if you
contact me I can supply you with one. aniother thing you will also have to
go onto dells website and down load all the nessesary drivers especially the
chipset drivers to enable full functionality . You must install these
chipset drivers 1st

I'm buying my daughter a refurbished (1Yr warranty) Dell D600 laptop with
XP Pro and then setting it up for her with decent security etc. and I will
be imaging the hard disk once everything is finished for safety's sake.

I am presuming that it will come with either a recovery CD or a hidden
recovery partition and no CD.

Can anyone point me to a site that shows me how to make an proper XP Pro
installation disk out of all that, which will work on the Dell setup?
(Including finding the product key etc. etc) - I haven't got any
experience with laptops or recovery CD's as I usually build my own
machines from the bottom up and buy OEM copies of the OS.

I want to be able to make a proper XP-Pro CD so that I can use the non
destructive repair routine (if necessary - and I imagine it will be!!!)
