Problem opening ie7

I have just uninstalled mozilla firefox as it kept crashing and was
painfully slow, not when I use an icon to open an internet page it asks me
which programme to open with, I tick the box for "always use this programme,
but I have to do this everytime I want to reopen something, what should I do
?
