Thanks Lee
1) Tried Esc key many times with many other cominations.
2) Checked keyboard keys.
3) Cannot enter bios, it's only when I have external FDD attached with
any
floppy in that I see the Dos screen with words in my earlier post,
afterbooting with F12 hit.
4) All bios upgrades I note are too large to put on floppy disc...so I
have
no upgrade disk, plus I do not know which version of bios exists on
"dead"
pc at present.
5) Maybe worth pointing out the CPU fan never comes on now....should
it come
on with cold boot??

Have you tried hold down the 'ESC' key when powering on the laptop
all.will enable you to enter the bios. Are there any keys stuck down at
areTrying disconnecting the keyboard and powering the laptop on to see if
that makes a difference. It might be worth reseating the CPU, if you
Toshconfident taking the laptop apart, this website is very useful for
laptop repair. If you can enter the bios update screen why not try
updating to the latest bios from bbs.toshiba.co.uk
Many thanks,
Lee.
Hi Terry,
Just to confirm when you turn the laptop on do you get the words
'TOSHIBA' appear in red writing? If not then the laptop is not booting
full stop. Another thing to try is to remove the green RTC battery,
this should be located under the keyboard. Another thing to try is
remove the modem from the underneath of the laptop, I know the modem
used to come unseated on this model of laptop, which sometimes caused
problems. You can download a boot disk from www.bootdisk.com. How big is
the bios update you are trying to put on a floppy? It should fit on a
1.44mb no problem, have you downloaded the update from
bbs.toshiba.co.uk? Also do you still have the recovery CD for the
laptop? If you do insert the CD and hold down the 'C' key as soon as you
power the laptop on.
Many thanks,
Lee.
Terry,
Forgot to mention, it does not matter what version of the bios you have,
overwriting with the newest will not cause any problems. The fan will
only usually come on when the CPU is hot.
Many thanks,
Lee.
