Hi all
My daughter brought home from Cyprus her poorly Tosh' Tecra 8100 after
having all er data removed to a desktop there by a "professional" in
Cyprus...The laptop was working OK then, apart from occassional screen loss.
I am unable to boot to floppy(except if I use F12..ready for bios update
feature).
When I boot up without battery connected, there are 2 green lights
showing...power & screen.Screen not showing anything..except the F12 above.
The CD lamp lights up momentarily on startup, but unable to access it.
The processor fan is NOT turning...(disconnected, cleaned & reseated).
Removed single RAM module from bay A...cleaned and replaced.
HD(12gig) removed, cleaned contacts & refitted.
Inverter removed & refitted to ensure connected OK.
I have hooked up to my desktop monitor with no screen display.
I am unable to access the bios with several keyboard
combinations..Esc,F1,FN,F5,F8, etc.
Tried to search Google etc. but unable to satisfy my desire to bring it
"back to life".
I am unable to check out electrical components with avo etc....suspect CMOS
battery??..it is connected OK though, as is the fan connecter.
I do not wish to take it into repair shop as it is not worth what their
charges may be I suspect.
Any other questions / suggestionsI will try to answer/try.
The last resort is to sell it for spares/repair?
TIA
Terry
Terry,
Have you tried hold down the 'ESC' key when powering on the laptop this will enable you to enter the bios. Are there any keys stuck down at all. Trying disconnecting the keyboard and powering the laptop on to see if that makes a difference. It might be worth reseating the CPU, if you are
confident taking the laptop apart, this website is very useful for Tosh
laptop repair. If you can enter the bios update screen why not try updating to the latest bios from bbs.toshiba.co.uk
Many thanks,
Lee.
