hang on, hang on. if this laptop can do RAID, it's likely that even
when you only have a single disk that it's connected to the same RAID
controller. SATA drives in desktop boards with onboard SATA/RAID do
this, for example. You're connected to the RAID controller, but you're
just not using the RAID functionality.
Single disks on RAID controllers often present themselves as RAID 1+0 -
it doesn't mean it's set as actually running in RAID, it's just how
it's reporting. If it benchmarks OK, you shouldn't change it.
A 2.5" IDE cable won't help as you won't have anywhere in the laptop to
connect it...
.
